Candidate statement
I am running for this position, not only to be an archivist, but more importantly, to contribute back to an organization that has cared for me for over 10 years. My goal is to not only document the histories of the organization, but to also look at ways for Asian American Studies throughout the United States have access to learning materials, curriculum, and research to be used for courses from K-12, community college, and 4yr institutions, along with graduate level work and research. I want to work with the organization to highlight the past and current activism within the Asian & Pasifika communities, but also use social media to educate others of the organization and their projects.
Candidate Biography:
J.A. Ruanto-Ramirez is a Queer, Indigenous Asian American, refugee, scholar-activist. They received their BA in Ethnic Studies from UC San Diego, their MA in Sociological Practice from CSU San Marcos, and is a PhD candidate in Cultural Studies - American Studies at Claremont Graduate University. They are currently an Assistant Professor of Ethnic Studies and Coordinator of the Asian American Studies Program at Southwestern College, and faculty advisor for the API, Filipinx American, and LGBTQ Learning Communities.
