Jolie A. Sheffer is associate professor of English and American Culture Studies at Bowling Green State University. She is the author of The Romance of Race: Incest, Miscegenation, and Multiculturalism in the United States, 1880-1930 and the forthcoming Understanding Karen Tei Yamashita. Her articles have appeared in MELUS, Journal of Asian American Studies, Pedagogy, and College Literature; she is a contributor to Teaching the Works of Karen Tei Yamashita, Asian American Literature in Transition, 1850 – 1930, and The Oxford Handbook of American Literary Realism. She is co-editing with Cathy Schlund-Vials a special issue of MELUS on β€œRe-Thinking, Re-Reading, and Re-Seeing Ethnic Historical Fiction.” I have been a member of AAAS since 2006, when I participated in an East of California Caucus soon after arriving as an Assistant Professor at Bowling Green State University. I regularly attend AAAS annual meetings and I have previously served on the book award committee for AAAS. I also have served as a manuscript reviewer for the Journal of Asian American Studies. I am eager to take on a greater role in supporting the organization, which has provided me a deeply meaningful sense of intellectual community for the past twelve years.
