Candidate statement
Lynn Fujiwara is an Associate Professor of Ethnic Studies at the University of Oregon. She served as the Department Head of Ethnic Studies for five years from 2011-2016. She is the author of Mothers Without Citizenship: The Consequences of Welfare Reform on Asian Immigrant Communities (University of Minnesota Press, 2008), for which received the Association for Asian American Studies Best Book Award in the Social Sciences. She co-edited with Shireen Roshanravan Asian American Feminisms and Women of Color Politics, University of Washington Press, 2018. As an interdisciplinary scholar her current work examines cultural formations and practices of Asian American feminist resistance.

I have been an active member of the AAAS since 1996. I have served on the book awards committee, and in 2016 I co-chaired the site committee for the annual meetings in Portland, Oregon. I have a strong commitment to mentorship, including lateral mentorship with colleagues negotiating administrative and leadership roles. I am honored to run for the Pacific Northwest, Hawaii and Pacific Islands, and Western Canada representative position. I recognize the multifaceted and heterogeneous histories, geographies, and politics within this constituency, and would be excited to advocate for our strong institutional presence in the Association.
