Candidate statement
I am an Associate Professor and the Director of Graduate Studies in English at Queens College, City University of New York (CUNY). I am also one of the current co-chairs for the Circle for Asian American Literary Studies (CAALS). My research/teaching interests are in Asian American literature, race and pop culture, and critical ethnic studies. I am completing a book on Asian American comedy and have published articles on Asian American comics and graphic narratives.
I attended my first AAAS conference back in 2006, and since then AAAS has been my primary intellectual community. It would be an honor and privilege to serve a field and an organization that has given and continues to give me so much, professionally and personally, and to represent Asian Americanists in the mid-Atlantic, my beloved home for almost a decade. I hope to contribute to the hard work of collaboration and coalition—in our pedagogy, our scholarship, our service—both within and beyond AAAS. And as a tenured professor, I am firmly committed to supporting the most vulnerable members of our community and advocating for contingent faculty, undergraduate and graduate students, and early-career scholars.
