Candidate statement
Brian Zhao is a junior at the College of William and Mary majoring in Asian & Middle Eastern Studies as well as Asian & Pacific Islander American Studies. His current research interests include the intersection of critical ethnic studies, postcolonial studies, and intellectual history within US academia. His past work experiences include serving as a summer intern for the Library of Congress and as a virtual legal intern for the revered human rights group, Grupo de Apoyo Mutuo in Guatemala. A graduate from Phillips Exeter Academy and the recipient of various fellowships and grants over the course of his college career, Brian is known by his peers as an organized leader and a meticulous researcher with experience working in digital and physical archives. At William & Mary, Brian has served an invaluable role as a student member of the APM Research Project team by helping uncover the lived-experiences and historical context of numerous of the first Asian and Asian-American students at the College. Over the next few months, Brian looks forward to building out the organizational infrastructure needed to sustain the broader, long-term efforts of the APM Research Project while continuing to find creative ways to engage and serve his local community.
