Rishi Guné
Candidate statement
Rishi Guné is a lecturer in at Princeton University. They received a Master's degree in Asian American Studies from UCLA, and a Master's degree in American Studies from Columbia University. They have taught courses in Asian American Studies and Ethnic Studies at California State University Sacramento and UC Riverside. Some recent courses include Asian American Gender and Sexuality, Relational Asian American Feminist Analyses, Caste and Race, Critical Intersections in South Asian American Studies, and Historical Development of Race and Power. Their research examines literary, legal and journalistic representation to understand how caste-privileged Indian Americans negotiate the American racial hierarchy and settler-colonialism.
As Contingent Faculty Representative, Rishi plans on establishing quorums for Asian American Studies contingent faculty to be held bi-monthly so that they can discuss issues impacting them. They also want to establish an online job board through the AAAS website focused on contingent faculty positions. In addition, Rishi plans to lead a fundraising campaign to establish 10-15 yearly $1000 grants for contingent faculty in need of emergency money for research incidentals or living expenses. I also want to work with Asian American Studies departments nationally to raise funds for more job consistency for AAS contingent faculty.
