Candidate statement
Eric Hung is executive director of the Music of Asian America Research Center, Curator of the AA+NH/PI Learning Pathway at Smithsonian Folkways, and Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Maryland’s College of Information Studies. Eric holds a MLIS in archives and digital curation from the University of Maryland and a PhD in musicology from Stanford University. Prior to joining the nonprofit world, he was a tenure-track/tenured professor of music history at Rider University. Eric’s research focuses on Asian American music, music and trauma, and the experiences of AA+NH/PIs in libraries and archives. He is also an activist pianist and a member of the Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture Percussion Ensemble.

If elected, Eric looks to build upon the work of Paul Lai and Dawn Wing in collecting documents that capture the work of the organization, and in maintaining good communication with the University of Washington Special Collections, where our records are stored. He also aims to expand the oral history program, and to activate the organization’s records to increase the visibility of the association, and to aid its advocacy and activist work. Finally, he is interested in recruiting more information professionals to be members and active participants in AAAS.
