1. Shall the Modernist Studies Association add the position of Contingent Faculty Representative to the Executive Committee?
The Contingent Faculty Representative will be an MSA member currently working as an adjunct, postdoc, lecturer on a limited-term contract, independent scholar or in any other kind of non-tenure-track academic position. They will be charged with representing the interests of MSA members in similarly contingent positions. The Contingent Faculty Representative will serve in an “at large” capacity and will be a full voting Trustee of the Executive Committee, eligible to join all subcommittees and ad hoc committees unless specified otherwise in the Constitution and By-Laws. The Contingent Faculty Representative will serve a two-year term, with the expectation that they will complete that term if their employment status changes. In recognition of their distinct professional status, they will receive funding to subsidize attendance at the annual conference. The Contingent Faculty Representative must be a member of the MSA at the time of election and throughout their term of office.
Nota Bene: In order to avoid having to elect multiple Trustees in a single year, the inaugural Contingent Faculty Representative will serve a term of three years. After the completion of their term in fall 2023, the position will revert to the two year term described above.
